After a pretty full on day in the office, I decided to drive home, grab my camera bag and head west. I visualized an image of the sun rays bursting through the clouds and painting the landscape with glorious golden light spots. I had a valley in mind, I just had to get there as soon as I could.
I got to the valley and started searching for a composition, but the cloud was getting lower and thicker by the minute, which resulted in a pretty flat looking image. After about an hour, I headed back to the car and drove a further 10 minutes to Lake Lyndon and to my relief, saw a much brighter horizon.
After I made it to the lake, I felt like Colin McRae as I hammered it down the gravel road. I jumped out of the car, probably the most excited I’ve ever been about the photographic potential of a scene, and the rest is history.
I love this image, its one of my favorites, and to think it nearly didn’t happen, and a ten minute drive made the difference.
